Food Processors

Food processors are great for big jobs. When you are staring at a pile of carrots, onions, and celery you have a decision to make...chef knife or food processor. At some point the food processor makes sense. Additionally, a food processor can shred so much faster than a box grater. Half the vegetables my kids eat and are thanks to my food processor's ability to render vegetables invisible in bolognese sauce.

Luxury: Cuisinart 14 Cup Stainless Steel

Here she is, in all her well used, defiantly dingy glory--my very own Cuisinart. At around $200, it isn't the cheapest option, but it definitely isn't the most expensive. It is, however, the best. It has a large capacity (most hold 12 cups), a powerful motor, and sharp stainless-steel blades that are dishwasher safe. The controls are simple and the build quality is excellent. The biggest downside is its bulk. Get the Cuisinart if it's in your budget and if you have the counter or cupboard space.

Essential: Hamilton Beach 12 Cup

For only $60 this unit has a respectable 12 cup capacity, a 450 watt motor (the Cuisinart has 720 watts for comparison), and a reassuring 4.5 stars on Amazon with over 27,000 reviews. This is an excellent value for money option.
