Knives
Knives are an investment. You will handle them every time you cook. The good news is that you can buy well performing, quality knives without breaking the bank. That said, if you have the money to spend, knives are THE place to splurge in the kitchen. The right knife set can be beautiful and last a lifetime.

These are excellent knives. The blades are well made and the handles are rubbery and don't slip, making them great for beginners (and experienced chefs). I personally own a paring knife and the 7 inch Nakiri from this set and love them. The paring knife is my favorite paring knife I have owned. These are 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the luxury option and will not disappoint.

These are beautiful, well made knives. Handwash them and occasionally use mineral oil on the handles and they will last forever. I personally own the 9" Chef Knife. It is perfect. It can handle big jobs like splitting a spaghetti squash but is so well balanced that I use it for most kitchen tasks. If they are in the budget then grab a set. If not, considering buying one and adding other pieces later.
